New Delhi: Wed, 15 Aug 2018 17:38, by: Deepak Kumar

On the morning of 72nd Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of the historic Mughal monument Red Fort and made some strong points on the issues that the country faces. This was Mr. Modi’s fifth Independence Day speech since BJP rose to power and it will be the final one before General Elections next year. The Independence Day address lasted for about 80 minutes, which means the PM delivered what he is famous for....long speech.  Last year he delivered a 57 minutes speech, which remains his shortest till date.

Mr. Narendra Modi pointed out that India is now the sixth biggest economy and has come a long way since she was counted amongst the “Fragile Five” and this is something that every Indian celebrating Independence Day across the globe would take pride in. Apart from this Prime Minister made some important statements about the progressiveness and deterioration of the country in the last few years, as well as, about the ambitions that the present government nurtures in respect of country’s bright future. Some of the key statements made by him on the important day are as follows:

Independence Day in Space

The Prime Minister after unfurling the Tricolour expressed about the space mission. He went a step ahead by assuring that in 2022 on the 75th Independence Day the citizens of India can see their National Flag being hoisted in the space. Sending a son or daughter of India to space with a flag will be done by that year and this will make India the fourth country to send a human to space.

Parliament Session delivering Social Justice

The recently concluded Parliament sessions were highly successful as per PM Modi. He praised the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha sessions and termed them as the ones dedicated to social justice and equality as they witnessed the passage of the Bill to create an Other Backward Class (OBC) Commission.

Embracing People the Real Solution for Kashmir

Mr. Modi dismissed the idea of using Bullets to establish peace in a troubled region like Kashmir. He recalled the sayings of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, whom he apparently follows. Mr. Vajpayee had called for insaniyat (humanity), Kashmiriyat (eclectic Kashmiri culture) and jamhooriyat (democracy). Mr. Modi emphasised on power of embracing people for unifying them and solving the problem of Kashmir, rather than abusing and practicing any kind of violence there.

From Red Tape to Red Carpet

Analysing the journey of India from Business investment perspective, PM said that from a land that was identified as risky, specialising in policy paralysis and delayed reforms, our country is recognised as a Multi-Million Dollar destination that “reforms, performs and transforms”. This has happened after 2014, as per the respected Prime Minister and has given a new lease of life to Indian Business scenario. The foreign nations that mentioned about Red Tape when talking about hopes from India, now prepare to lay down Red Carpet on her proposals and agreements.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyan

The rollout of a mega healthcare scheme was the most important part of the Independence Day address by the PM. Announcing September 25 as the launch date of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyan that is on the birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, the Prime Minister said that its time that the government ensures affordability and accessibility to good quality medical care to the poor and needy of the nation.

The Social Demon called Rape

It is disturbing how several rape cases have occurred in the country and established a kind of rape culture that makes India an unsafe nation for women. Admitting the unprotected environment that has slowly developed, Mr. Modi said that it is important for our society to get freedom from the demonic mentality of Rape. Moreover, it is necessary to spread awareness about the strict rules and the Fast Track case delivery for seeking justice and raising caution in the minds of prospective criminals. He cited the example of a Madhya Pradesh fast track court that ordered for hanging of the rapist.

Triple Talaq Relief and Women Empowerment

The elimination of the Triple Talaq system that garnered huge controversy was also spoken upon by the Prime Minister He expressed that the practice of Triple Talaq has caused great atrocities to the Muslim women and still a section of the community refuses to part with it. PM Modi vowed to keep working for ensuring justice to the Muslim women and to work for their betterment despite all hindrances.

To provide equal opportunity to the women commissioned in short service, the Prime Minister announced that such women would get chance for permanent commission alike their male counterparts.

Enumerating the Other Works of Government

Mr. Narendra Modi in his speech claimed that while working towards establishing peace his government has been successful in excluding 44 districts from the list of “Maoist affected districts” and has reduced the total number of affected districts from 126 to 90. He further claimed that the Ujjwala and Saubhagya Yojana have enhanced the dignity of fellow Indians by promoting significant economic growth. He also thanked the business community of India for the successful implication of the GST throughout the nation, while inserting that GST was wanted by everyone, yet became a reality only last year. He did not forget to talk about the Swachh Bharat Mission, which as per him enabled lakhs of children to lead healthier lives and have been lauded by the World Health Organisation (WHO). He appealed to the people that they should assume the role of Swachhagrahis and toil towards obtaining Swachh Bharat and that would be similar to Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagrahis, who struggled their way to Freedom.

The Prime Minister also assured while addressing the people that no stone will be left unturned in punishing the corrupt and the Black Money hoarders.  He mentioned that the efforts of the government have made corridors of power get rid of the brokers, increased the number of taxpayers and eliminated bogus beneficiaries saving Rs. 90000 crores.

Mr. Modi paid his homage to those who lost their life in the battlefield, as well as, the people, who suffered death in the massive floods in Kerala recently. Showing his belief in India’ s human capital, Prime Minster Narendra Modi made an emotional statement by saying that when 1.25 billion dreams approach towards a goal, it is not possible that nothing would happen. He added that when people chose their new government in 2014, they got together in the process of nation building and that shall continue.
